In the nineteenth century, demographic and industrial growth forced Spanish cities to expand to rural areas. This affected urban planning, promoting broader streets, larger blocks and green spaces to improve lighting and ventilation.

The Salamanca neighborhood was a landmark in that time of “new town planning”, and to this day, historical buildings like that on Velázquez Street near the Retiro park are a testament to the period.

Despite certain imperfections, the original building provided ample spaces, unique decorations, tall windows, and high-quality materials at a privileged location.

For this project, we combined the functionality of a workspace with the comfort of a warm and cozy home.

The central premise consisted in preserving and highlighting elements of intrinsic value and subjecting them all to a conscientious process of cataloguing: trims, carpentry, furniture fittings, radiators, handrails and coatings. This focus has resulted in a careful design where each detail functions in harmony with the whole.

The pallet of colors included warm tones of natural pine wood, which were combined with the textures of carpets and curtains, as well as elements of brass and lighting.

Also, vegetation was incorporated, including green marble and dark-tone stained oak wood, to create a contrast with the walls and original trims in bright colors.
